To counter local accountant software with better, and better looking, interfaces, Sage was ramping up their design capacity.
There was already a VP of SMB in place and I was hired as the VP for the designers working on the mid market and enterprise products (Sage X3, Sage Financials, Sage People, Sage Accountant Cloud, Sage 50, Sage 200 and Sage 300.)
Over time I also formalised grass roots initiatives such as the Career Framework, Design System and global experience elements such as single-sign-on in one cross-product team called “Core Experience”.
At Sage I managed 50 people, UX Designers, Solution Designers, Content Designers and Product Owners spread acrossUK, France, South Africa, Holland, Spain, USA, Canada and Austria either as fully office-based or fully-remote. The experience of managing remote workers would come in handy when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
